Judges report for Lockyer Valley Camera Club
August 2016
by
Peter Granfield
Member of Toowoomba Photographic Society
and PSQ understudy judge.

My approach to judging is reflected in your clubs requirements spelt out in the email to John Blessas. I review each image and allocate points on 6 different attributes as shown below. This enables me to step back from personal first impressions and score them on their handling of the respective attributes. In the comments offered on each image below I have given the points awarded as well as the award given. You don't need to advise the entrants of the points if you so choose. I allocate in half points, with maximum being 15 When a half point total falls between awards the B graders are rounded down while the novices are rounded up, while also being more generous with scoring for the novices.

    Points      Attribute
3        WOW factor – or impact in your terms
3        Composition – could cropping improve image
3        Artistic merit – or aesthetic appeal in your terms
          2        Originality
          2        Technical handling
2        The story telling quality (are you touched by the story)
